Eagles improve to 3-0, Lady Eagles tip-off season with a ‘W’


(MERIDIAN) - Meridian Community College basketball played their first men's and women's double header of the season at Graham Gymnasium on Saturday as they hosted Bishop State Community College.

The Eagles looked to remain unbeaten after two straight wins to start their year while the Lady Eagles were playing their season opener Saturday night.

In the first game of the evening the MCC men would face Bishop State. The Eagles led Bishop State 36-34 at halftime despite going 1 for 7 from behind the three point arch in the opening half.

Bishop State gained the momentum early in the second half, leading as much as eleven points but the Eagles responded with a big run of their own taking an eleven point lead of their own with 5:00 minutes left in the game, 71-62.

Bishop State pulled within six, 73-67 making it a two possession game with just over 2:00 minutes to play.

Down the stretch in the final seconds MCC finally converted on free throws to pull away and win, 78-70.

The Eagles were once again led in scoring by Rashad Robinson, the freshman had 18 points. Three other Eagles were in double figures as Brandon Pettaway had 15 points, Jared Hudnall scored 13 points and MaQuirus Burton added 11 points.

MCC improved to 3-0 on the season and prepare to face rival-East Mississippi on the road this Thursday night.

Bishop State 66


The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles opened up their season Saturday night against visiting Bishop State.

As has been the case during the Hillary Allen era at MCC, his Lady Eagles like to run and gun, playing a fast paced tempo and the first half of the season opener was true to form as MCC jumped out to a 49-27 halftime lead over Bishop State.

MCC continued to dominate in the second half and won by a final of 79-66 to win their season opener.

The Lady Eagles were led by Tiara Logan with 21 points.

MCC (1-0) will play again on Wednesday at 7 pm when they host Trinity Valley.
