Three MCC baseball players ink with NCAA programs


(MERIDIAN) – Three Meridian Community College sophomore baseball players signed with NCAA programs Wednesday afternoon in the Graham Gymnasium,

Corey Dickerson, an outfielder from Brookhaven, who was drafted by the Colorado Rockies last year, signed with Southeastern Conference power-Mississippi State University. Dickerson started every game for MCC last season at the centerfield position with a batting average of .387 with 21 doubles, 5 triples, and 15 homeruns. He also had 54 RBI and 14 stolen bases.

Jonathan Pace, an infielder from Terry, signed with the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana University- who went 37-22 (W-L) last season. Pace started every game for MCC at the second base position with a batting average of .373, with 10 doubles, 2 triples and 2 homeruns. He also had 35 RBI and 9 stolen bases.

Jonathan Thompson, a right-handed pitcher from Baton Rouge, signed with 2009 College World Series participant and Conference USA power, University of Southern Mississippi where he will play under former MCC head coach, Scott Berry who now leads the Golden Eagles. Thompson is a transfer from Bossier Parish Community College where he had the fifth best batting average (.373) and fifth lowest ERA average (3.93) on the Cavaliers team in 2009.

Dickerson, Pace and Thompson are all expected to start for MCC this upcoming spring season. The Eagles will be the defending NJCAA Region 23 Champions and looking for back-to-back trips to the NJCAA District Tournament. Winner of the District will advance to play in the NJCAA Division I College World Series in Grand Junction, CO in may 2010.
