from staff reports
The Meridian Community College baseball team continued its winning streak on the road Tuesday, sweeping host Alabama Southern 6-0 and 13-6.
The Eagles have now won five straight to improve to 5-2.
Cody Thompson led MCC in the opener, throwing a complete game with six strikeouts and allowing just three hits.
Meanwhile, Wesley Thigpen powered the Eagles offensively with a grand slam to give MCC breathing room following solo home runs from Corey Dickerson and William Beckwith each. Jonathan Pace added two singles.
The Eagles offense continued its slugfest in the nightcap, as Dickerson hammered a two-run home run in the first inning. Former West Lauderdale standout Tyler Vick, Thigpen and Evan Weibel also homered in the second game.
In relief of starter Matt Cox, who threw three innings, Jason Judge picked up the win in three innings of work, striking out three and allowing just two hits.
MCC hosts Southeastern Illinois and Wabash in a doubleheader Friday.
