Texas prep star inks with MCC golf

(MERIDIAN, Miss.) – Meridian Community College men’s golf coach Sean Covich announced the signing of Adam Monsen out of John Paul Stevens High School in San Antonio, Texas as his first singee to the 2009 recruiting class.

In 2008, Monsen competed in seven tournaments as a junior, winning two medalist titles and finished runner-up three times. Through his senior year, Monsen has a high school tournament scoring average of 74.3.

Monsen shot rounds of 74-69 at the Southside Cardinal Spring Classic to win the title out of 95 high school golfers. Then he shot 75-72 to win the Seguin Matador Classic out of 103 golfers. In District 28-5A, Monsen was a runner-up regional qualifier.

As a part of the Texas Junior Golf Association, Monsen claimed three top 15 finishes in four starts over the 2008 winter break.

In 2007, Monsen finished 6th out of 96 golfers on the Southern Texas PGA Junior Tour, with four top ten finishes- including two wins. As a sophomore he also won three high school events with his low score of 71 coming at the Dominion County Club.

"Adam will be the center piece of the 2009 recruiting class," said Covich.

"I watched Adam shoot a 73 on an extremely difficult Ben Crenshaw designed course in Austin, TX, but more than that- he has impressed me in the way he carries himself on and off the golf course. He is young man that will represent this school and this team with class and that’s what I look for."
