MCC golf claims top five finish in Illinois
(MARION, IL) The Meridian Community College golf team finished tied for fifth at the prestigious John A Logan Invitational at renowned Kokopelli Golf Club in Marion, Illinois on Monday.
The Eagles posted the second lowest team score on the final day of competition with a 308.
The Eagles were led by freshman Garrett Westbrook with a 149 (75-74). Westbrook was named to his first career all tournament team.
Nick Hawkes posted rounds of 78-76, John Cleveland shot 80-81, Cory Williamson shot 84-76, and Mark Drube shot 84-81. Indian Hills College of Iowa won the event with 592 (292-300).
MS Gulf Coast claimed runners-up with 616 (304-312), Parkland College was third with 618 (307-311), Rend Lake College was fourth with 620 (307-313), and Meridian was fifth 624 (316-308). 17 college teams participated in the event.
Steven McGlyn won the individual medalist title with rounds of 69-73.
The MCC golf team has now placed fifth in each of their season opening events. The A Team will be in action in October at the NJCAA National Championship Preview at The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Huntsville, AL. Meanwhile the B Team plays Tuesday at the Mississippi College Invitational at Patrick Farms GC.
