MCC golf claims runner up at Mississippi College Inv.
(Jackson) - The Meridian Community College golf team shot a team score of 305 to claim runner up in the 2008 Mississippi College Fall Invitational on Tuesday at Patrick Farms Golf Club.
The Eagles were led by freshmen Chris Cochran and Tanner Sparks, who shot rounds of 1-over par 73. Cochran and Sparks tied for second, three strokes behind medalist Justin Lunceford of Mississippi College who posted a 2-under par 70. MCC sophomore Clay Bounds shot 4-over par 76, while former West Lauderdale golfers, Matthew Stephens and Tyler Rainer, shot 83 and 100, respectively.
Mississippi College won the event by 10 shots over MCC's B-team. The host Choctaws shot 295. MCC posted 305 for second, while East Mississippi CC claimed third with a 314. Six schools were in the event.
Meridian will return to action in the NJCAA National Championship Preview at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail on October 13-14 in Huntsville, AL.
