Lady Eagle softball splits with EMCC

Meridian 9-2
East Mississippi 2-5

The Lady Eagles split a pair of division contests at Scooba on Tuesday. The split leaves MCC in a tie with EMCC for third place in the division at 5-5.

In game one MCC took advantage of four EMCC errors and collected 11 hits to take the contest, 9-2.

Gabrielle Morgan got the victory on the mound. She held the Lady Lions to five hits allowing single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, one of those being a leadoff home run off the bat of Josie Matthews in the sixth.

After scoring one run in the second, MCC used a four-run third inning to take control of the game. MCC added two runs in each the fifth and seventh, with the highlight being Shanese Hunter's fifth homer of the season — a two-run shot to left.

De’Miracle Biggs was 3--for-5 with a double, Hunter was 2-for-4 with a homer, Whitney Drachenberg was 2-for-5 with a double and Natalie Parker was also 2-for-5 for MCC.

In game two East Mississippi took advantage of four MCC errors to grab the 5-2 victory and gain a split.

The fourth inning proved to be costly for MCC. Holding a 1-0 lead, MCC committed three costly errors to help enable EMCC to score five runs. EMCC also picked up two of its four hits on the game in the inning.

Hunter, who held EMCC to four hits, took the loss on the mound. Stephanie Pounders got the win.

For MCC, Biggs, Stephanie Stevens, Drachenberg, Constance Jones and C.C. Roberts all had singles in the contest.
