MCC Soccer Players Named Postseason Award Winners

The Meridian Community College soccer team has plenty to
celebrate as three players from its program have been named to postseason honor
lists. Donja Smith, Pedro Dutra, and Kylee Burke were recently recognized with
individual honors by the NJCAA and the MACJC after superb sophomore campaigns.
Smith received the highest honor of all three players by being selected a
member of the NJCAA All-Region 23 Team. Smith, a native of St. Elizabeth,
Jamaica, had an incredible season in an Eagle uniform by scoring 11 goals and
collecting a pair of assists for the MCC men’s squad.
Pedro Dutra also received a postseason honor for the Eagles
by being selected a member of the MACJC All-State squad. Dutra, a native of
Passos, Minas Gerais (Brazil), turned in a solid 2016 season with nine goals
and eight assists. The final member of the MCC soccer program that received a
postseason honor was Kylee Burke of the women’s squad. Burke, a native of
Vicksburg, MS native, was named to the MACJC All-State Team and the honor also
marked the second straight season that Burke had been named to the team. Burke
has one goal and two assists in her sophomore campaign, while in her freshman
season she tallied four assists. Burke played her high school soccer at Warren
Central High School.
