MCC Cross Country Set for Nationals

School Reports
Meridian,
MS - MCC’s Cross Country team will make its long awaited return to the NJCAA
Cross Country National Championships on Saturday as they travel west to El
Dorado, Kansas.
MCC is
coming off a stellar regular season that saw them ranked in the Top 25 multiple
times throughout the course of the season along with posting a second place
finish three weeks ago at the Crimson Classic hosted by the University of
Alabama.
“We are
excited for this meet, especially since it is our first trip there since we
brought the program back,” said Head Coach Chip Gayden. “To be
successful at this meet, we have to run as a team and we showed we know how to
do that at Alabama.”
MCC
will run a team of three sophomores and four freshmen that is very experienced
in big meets. MCC will look to depend on three members of their 4x800m indoor
national championship team in Rogelio Araiza, Tim Hoodlebrink and Noah
Smith. Freshman, Micah Britton, an 8-time state champion from Alabama
along with fellow freshmen Kobey Hill, Raymond Mion and De’jon Walker will
round out MCC’s team.
“This
is a group of guys especially our sophomores, that knows what the pressure
feels like and has the experience of racing in big races,” said Gayden.
“If we go out and race the way we have been training, we should do very well.”
MCC
will race on Saturday, November 12 at noon at the Prairie Trails Golf Course in
El Dorado, KS.
