MCC Baseball Finds Postseason Magic

The Meridian Community College baseball team opened play in
the first round of the MACJC playoffs on Friday night against Itawamba
Community College at Scaggs Field. The Eagles found a little magic in the
bottom of the ninth inning to score a 5-4 comeback victory over the Indians.
Jaylon Keys delivered the first big blow of the ninth inning on a two-run
triple and Nate Romans drove home the winning run on a sacrifice fly to hand
the Eagles the miraculous win.
MCC improved to 38-9 overall with the victory, while
Itawamba dropped its overall record to 26-19 with the heartbreaking loss. MCC
takes a 1-0 lead in the three-game series with Itawmaba and Game Two will be
played Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The third game of the series will follow if
Itawamba can defeat MCC in the second game of the series.
Eason Weeks scored one of the three runs in the bottom of
the ninth inning for the Eagles and also had two singles in the victory. Jaylon
Keys also had an RBI single earlier in the game for MCC and Dalton Smith picked
up a single. Matt Berler added an RBI on a bases loaded walk and Luke Craig
also had a single to round out the offense for MCC.
Spencer Price (8-1) picked up the pitching win in relief for
MCC by working in the ninth inning, while former West Lauderdale star Ryan Lane
pitched six strong innings in the start for MCC. Caleb Yarborough tossed one
inning in relief and didn’t allow an earned run, while Hunter Mullis collected
three strikeouts out of the pen for MCC.
