MCC Baseball Splits Home Finale With Northwest

The Meridian Community College Eagles completed the 2015
home portion of its schedule on Saturday afternoon by hosting Northwest
Mississippi Community College at Scaggs Field. The Eagles came away with a
doubleheader split with the Rangers by winning Game One 12-11 and falling in
Game Two by a final count of 5-0. MCC moved to 31-12 overall for the season and
19-7 in conference play, while Northwest moved to 27-12 overall and 18-8 in
league play.
MCC is scheduled to close out the 2015 regular season with a
road trip on Monday against Hinds Community College in Raymond, MS. The first
pitch of Game One on Monday afternoon is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
MCC opened its doubleheader on Saturday with Northwest by
winning a wild 12-11 decision to push its winning streak to seven. MCC finished
Game One with 17 hits, while Northwest completed the game with 11. Dustin Smith
led the way in Game One for the Eagles by going 4-for-5 with a solo home run,
while Andrew Crook finished with a 3-for-5 day at the plate with a solo homer.
Matt Berler ended Game One with three base hits and two
RBI’s and Kyle Bayles collected a pair of RBI’s on two base hits in the
victory. Michael Druhan also had a solid day at the plate in Game One with two
hits and an RBI, while Goose Yates and Dalton Thomas each collected one hit
apiece.
Northwest rebounded in Game Two by taking a 5-0 shutout
victory over the Eagles. MCC only managed three hits total in Game Two and saw
its seven-game winning streak come to an end. Matt Berler, Goose Yates, and
Kyle Bayles each had one hit apiece in the shutout loss in Game Two.
