MCC Track Enjoys Success at Auburn Invitational

Birmingham, AL- MCC's Track and Field Team returned to action Saturday at the Auburn Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex.

MCC traveled only their sprinters and jumpers Saturday to compete against the likes of Florida State, Alabama, Auburn, LSU and Ole Miss and saw a great deal of success.

Freshman, Chris Lewis once again made it to the finals in the 60-meters after posting the fourth fastest time in the prelims.  Lewis placed fifth in the final with a time of 6.78

Freshman, Cravorkian Carson barely missed making the finals in the 60-meters after posting a personal best 6.94.

Head Coach, Chip Gayden was pleased with the performances in the event. "We came out and executed really well. That was our goal today with the short sprinters."

MCC saw consistency in the 400 with freshmen Eric Durham and Bryson Penton. Both runners posted times of 50.53 and 50.56 respectively. Devontre Young also made his debut in the event posting a time of 51.66.

"Our 400 runners came out and preformed well," said Gayden. "We were running a little tired after having a hard week of training, so to run close to our personal bests fatigued I was pleased.

MCC debuted their 4x400m relay team as well Saturday posting a time of 3:23.17. The time by Eric Durham, Bryson Penton, K'lan Harris and Devontre Young currently ranks them 11th in the NJCAA.

MCC also saw success in the jumps. Freshman, Josh Wilson qualified for the finals in the event and placed ninth in the event with a mark of 22-2.50

"Josh had a great meet. He has really begun to understand the technical aspects of jumping and this was a good spring board for the rest of the year," said Gayden.

MCC will compete again next Saturday at the Green and Gold Invite hosted by UAB at the Birmingham Crossplex.
