MCC Track and Field Post Top Marks Nationally
Meridian,
MS – After the first week of the indoor track and field season, MCC currently
holds some of the top marks in the NJCAA in the sprint events including four
National Championship qualifiers.
Freshman,
Chris Lewis is currently ranked first in the NJCAA in the 60 – meters with a
time of 6.74. His time also has him listed 14th on the All
Collegiate list amongst all college athletes. Lewis is also ranked sixth
in the NJCAA in the 200 – meters with a time of 22.29. Lewis has qualified for
the NJCAA National Championships in both events.
Freshman,
Cravorkian Carson is currently ranked eighth in the NJCAA in the 60 – meters
with a time of 6.95. Carson’s time qualifies him for the NJCAA National
Championships.
Freshman,
Eric Durham is currently ranked number two in the NJCAA in the 400 meters with
a time of 49.83. Durham’s time qualifies him for the NJCAA National
Championships.
Freshman,
Jocindra Glee is currently ranked first in the NJCAA in the 400 meters with a
time of 59.03. Glee’s time qualifies her for the NJCAA National
Championships.
MCC
has also posted Top 10 marks nationally in the 800 meters with Cristian Lopez
(5th), Josh Austin (9th), and Breonnah Thomas (4th),
the 3000 meters with Djano Sedrick (3rd), and the high jump with
Devontre Young (7th).
Head
Coach, Chip Gayden said he is pleased with the success that the team has had
early this season and expected it. “It’s always great to have success
especially early in the season. It just gives us more confidence and
keeps us motivated and focused. Since mid-way through the fall I saw
these kinds of results coming with our team in practice and it really looks
like it could be a great indoor and outdoor season for us.”
MCC
will return to the track Jan. 17 over in Birmingham, AL at the Birmingham
Crossplex at the Auburn Invitational.
