Meridian sweeps Northwest Shoals

MERIDIAN — Kenny Roberts extended his hit streak to 20 games, and Darren Farmer had a solid day at the plate as Meridian Community College rolled over Northwest Shoals in a doubleheader at Scaggs Field on Tuesday.

In Game 1, the Eagles used a seven-run third inning to set the tone and take an 11-9 win.

Dustin James, a West Lauderdale product, had two hits and Garrett Pitts had two hits and three RBIs. Farmer, another West Lauderdale product, had two RBIs and a hit, while former Meridian High standout Roberts connected on the go-ahead two-run home run in the fifth inning.

Brandon Hallford earned the win for MCC in relief, while Josh Lee got the save.

In Game 2, the Eagles wasted little time, striking for seven runs in the first inning before settling for the 10-1 win.

Farmer continued his solid day from the plate with three hits, while Ben Kinglsey had two hits including a home run and two RBIs. Pitts had a home run and 4 RBIs.

West Lauderdale product Wes Stokes got the win for Meridian.

MCC improves to 21-12 on the season, while Northwest falls to 19-7.

The Eagles travel to Alabama Southern on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game.
