MCC in second after round one of Spring Fling
Three Eagles fire under-par rounds
(Scottsboro, AL) – The Meridian Community College golf team fired an opening round 284, 4-under par team score on Thursday in round one of the 10th annual Ron Marshall Spring Fling and sits in second place.
21 teams from nine different states are competing in the three day, 54-hole event which is being played in Scottsboro, AL at the Goose Pond Golf Course, measuring 7,101 yards long and plays to a par 72.
Leading the Eagles on day one was sophomore Brandt Garon. The defending national champion posted a 3-under par 69. Fellow sophomore Clemens Dvorak shot 1-under par, 71. Freshman Jake Stirling also posted 1-under par, 71. Meridian freshman, Easton Key posted a 1-over par 73 and sophomore Adam Monsen shot a 2-over par 74.
Meridian is in second place, just three shots behind leader- No. 1 ranked Central Alabama (281). Wallace State and Darton are tied for third after both teams shot 287. South Mountain (AZ) is in fifth with a 289.
The Eagles are paired with former national championship teams, Central Alabama and Darton for round two on Friday. Action gets underway at 10:15 a.m. Final round will be played Saturday starting at 8 a.m.
