MCC tennis adds West Jones standout

The Meridian Community College tennis team added a piece to their 2009 recruiting class with a stop at West Jones High School in Laurel, MS on Tuesday.

Cade Sherman of Laurel signed a national letter of intent to play for Coach Wanda McPhail and the MCC tennis team.

Sherman is the three time defending District 7-4A singles champion, having won his freshman, sophomore and junior years. He is a two-time MHSAA State 4A semifinalist as a Mustang. Currently ranked in the Mississippi Junior Tennis poll in the top 25, Sherman qualified for nationals as part of his junior tennis team last year.

Sherman is the younger brother of former MCC tennis star, Blake Sherman. He is the son of Richard and Lyn Sherman of Laurel.

“Cade will add talent to an already strong returning group of sophomores,” said MCC tennis coach, Wanda McPhail.

“He is an outstanding young man and an excellent student.”
