MCC golf claims third at Miss-Lou College Inv.

Jarrod Moulds named All Tournament

(Delhi, LA) - The Meridian Community College golf team concluded the Mississippi-Louisiana College Invitational in third place after a final round 315 team score.

The Eagles shot 309 on the first day and ended the 36-hole event with a two day total of 624 to finish 11 strokes behind the team champions, University of Texas at Tyler who posted a 613. University of Texas at Dallas was in second place with a 620 and MCC in third with 624. LeTourneau University came in fourth with a 626, Mississippi College came in fifth with a 627.

"For the second consecutive week, we've been in a position to win after the first round but just can't seem to complete the tournament," said MCC coach Sean Covich.

"We're really close, just one mistake here and there, but this team needs to find a way to win before post season play in April."

Individually for MCC, Jarrod Moulds led the Eagles on the final round with a team best 3-over 75. He finished the event in a tie for third place after shooting 151 (76-75). He was named to the All Tournament team after his top five showing.

Garrett Westbrook shot 155 (76-79) for the event, while Clay Bounds shot 157 (79-78). Tanner Sparks shot 162 (78-84) and Nick Hawkes closed out MCC scores with a 163 (80-83).

Joel Thelen of LeTourneau University won the medalist title with rounds of 74-74.

The Eagles don't take much of a break as they will face John A. Logan (IL) College in Scottsboro, AL for the "Battle on the Pond" played at Goose Pond Golf Course on Thursday and Friday, March 12-13.
