Lady Eagles win MACJC State Championship


(RAYMOND, Miss) - It was a banner year for the Meridian Community College Lady Eagle soccer team in 2007 and now they have a banner to wave, the programs first MACJC State Championship.

MCC faced Gulf Coast in the finals of the MACJC Womens soccer State Championship Sunday afternoon on the campus of Hinds Community College.

Lady Eagle freshman Kari Leiberman scored first to give MCC a 1-0 halftime lead.

Gulf Coast tied it up in the second half at 1-1.

MCC's star freshman, Holly Head, scored two goals in the final half to secure the biggest win in the programs history.

MCC defeated Gulf Coast 3-1.

As the State Champions, MCC will advance to play in the Region 23 tournament with a chance to go to the NJCAA national championship tournament.
