Lady Eagles advance into championship game

(RAYMOND, Miss) - For the first time in the programs history the Meridian Community College Lady Eagle soccer team played in a post season game in the MACJC State soccer tournament at Hinds Community College.

As the South Division champions, MCC faced the No. 2 North Division seed, Itawamba Community College Saturday afternoon in the semifinal game.

Lady Eagles McKenzie Butler and Holly Head have combined to lead MCC's scoring attack all season and in the match vs. ICC it was no different.

Butler, a sophomore from Pontotoc, scored a goal in the first half to make it 1-1, the game remained tied until the first the end of regulation.

In the extra period of play, Head, a freshman from Vicksburg, scored for the Lady Eagles to send MCC into the MACJC State Championship for the first time in the programs history.

MCC will face the winner of the Gulf Coast/Hinds game for the state championship Sunday afternoon.
