MCC Baseball opens up season at Alabama Southern

The Meridian Community College baseball program will open up its 2008 baseball season and Coach Chris Rose’s 3rd coaching campaign with the Eagles today against Alabama Southern in Monroeville, Ala.

First pitch is slated for noon.

The Eagles will play one more Alabama opponent on the road Saturday before retuning home to usher in its 32-game home schedule next weekend (February 15-17) when they host a five team field in the annual Rush Invitational Tournament. Teams participating include Pearl River, Southeastern, Wabash, and Wallace-Hanceville.

MCC’s non-conference schedule is highlighted by match ups against the 2007 NJCAA World Series Champions, Chipola College and traditional-rival, Delgado Community College. The Eagles will make a trip to Marianna, FL on March 7 and 8 to face the defending national champions, Chipola in a two game series. MCC will play a home-and-home series with Delgado on March 1 in New Orleans, LA then in Meridian on April 23.

MCC’s first MACJC Central Division contest is against the defending MACJC State Champions, East Central on March 18 in Decatur. The Eagles first home contest against a divisional opponent is March 29 versus Holmes.

MCC returns seven starters from the 2007 team that finished with a 41-15 record and won the MACJC Central Division Championship.

Local players, Scott Moseley (Enterprise) and Drew Snider (West Lauderdale) will join Jarrod Parks (Madison Central) to highlight the returning starters. Moseley and Snider have signed to play for Nichols State University and Parks has committed to Tulane University.
