Louisiana prep standout inks with MCC baseball

LULING, Lou. – Meridian Community College has signed Tyler Koelling of Luling, Lou., to a baseball scholarship, head baseball coach Chris Rose announced Monday.

Koelling was a 6-1, 195-pound pitcher/out fielder at Archbishop Rummel High School, where he was coached by David Baudry and Brady Benoit. The right-handed hitting and throwing Koelling can play multiple positions and will do so according to Coach Rose.

“Tyler was one of the top guys on our list, he can hit, he can run and he can pitch,” said Rose, about Koelling inking with MCC.

“He is very versatile and will end up playing at the next level.”

Last season as a senior, Koelling was named first team All-District, All-Metro and All-State.

"I am real excited to sign with Meridian," said Koelling. "My best friend (Wesley Thigpen) signed with MCC so I am excited about that, also."

"My goals are to get MCC to the Juco World Series again and personally to have success at Meridian and then sign with a four-year university.”

A career starter for Rummel H.S., Koelling batted for a .406 average his senior season with 5 homeruns and 48 RBI.

Currently, Koelling is summer league baseball for the Bill Hood Bronco's, coached by Chris Westscott.

Last season, MCC won the MACJC Central Division championship and hosted the NJCAA Region 23 baseball tournament where they upset then #1 LSU-Eunice in round one. The Eagles have made seven Juco World Series appearances since 1993, including two back-to-back trips in 2003 and 2004.
