MCC Soccer Sweeps Past Southwest
The Meridian Community College soccer program returned to
the field on Tuesday with a road trip to Southwest Mississippi Community
College for a pair of key early season conference games.
MCC came away with a doubleheader sweep over Southwest by
a final score of 4-3 in women's action and a final score of 2-1 in the men's
match. The MCC women improved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in MACJC South division
play, while the MCC men moved to a perfect 4-0 overall and 2-0 in conference
action.
MCC will return to the field on Friday night at C.D.
Smith Field for another pair of South Division games against Jones County
Junior College. The women's match against JCJC is scheduled for 5 p.m. and the
men's match will follow at 7 p.m.
The Lady Eagles erased a 3-1 deficit in the second half
of play on Tuesday afternoon against Southwest to take a dramatic 4-3 overtime
win over the Lady Bears. Sophomore Effie Morrison scored two goals in the
second half of play for the Lady Eagles to pace the comeback and completed the
hat trick with her third goal in the overtime session. Abbey Pate also added a
goal in the one-goal win, while Zaria Husband had a pair of assists and Gabby
Joyce had the assist on the final goal in overtime for MCC.
The MCC men scored two goals in the first half of play on
Tuesday against the Bears and were able to hold on for the 2-1 victory.
Freshman Pedro Dutra scored the first goal of the match for MCC in the 15th
minute of play and Dutra would later add an assist on a goal by Donja Smith to
pace the offense for the Eagles.
