MCC Announces 2016 Men’s Track and Field Recruiting Class

Meridian, MS - This fall MCC will welcome one of the top signing classes at the junior college level, when twelve new members to the MCC track and field program. 

The class stands as a group of true champions as this class has won 15 individual state championships and contributed to 8 team state titles in their high school careers.

“We are excited about these group of guys,” said Head Coach Chip Gayden. “The staff did a great job at identifying who and what we were looking for and made sure we got what we needed to be competitive at the national level.  I believe all of these guys can come in right away and be instant contributors to our programs success.  I think we covered a lot of event areas especially on the distance side of things.”

Below you will find a list of the 2016 class and their achievements prior to MCC.

Marcus Reaves - A Florida native, from Pine Forest High School in Pensacola, Reaves comes to MCC as the 20th ranked 100 meter sprinter in Florida and the 57th ranked 100 meter sprinter in the nation with a time of 10.66.  Reaves was also the 3A State Champion in the 100 meters.

Rayshaun Bradley - A product of Paul Bryant High School in Tuscaloosa, AL, Bradley arrives at MCC as the 6th ranked 100 meter sprinter in Alabama and the 59th ranked 100 meter sprinter in the nation with a time of 10.69.

Shakim Buckley - A Mississippi native hailing from Gulfport High School.  Buckley comes to MCC after capturing a state title in the 110 meter hurdles.  Buckley was ranked 3rd in Mississippi in the 110 meter hurdles as a senior with a personal best time of 14.52.
Stephan Holcombe - Another product of Alabama, Holcombe arrives from Spanish Fort High School.  Holcombe was the 3rd ranked 400 meter runner in Alabama and the 37th ranked 400 meter runner in the nation as a senior with a time of 47.68.  Holcombe was also the 6A State Champion in the 400 meters.

James Burnett - One of Mississippi’s top sprinters in 2016 arrives at MCC from Oxford High School.  At Oxford, Burnett was one of the top 400 meter runners in the state and the country.  Burnett was ranked 1st in Mississippi in the 400 meters and was ranked 4th nationally in the 400 meters indoors  with a time of 47.79 and 62nd outdoors in the 400 meters with a time of 48.10.  Burnett also was the state champion in the 400 meters and helped Oxford High School capture the last three 5A Team State Championships.

Andre Burrell - A Georgia native, Burrell comes to MCC from Cedar Grove High School outside of Atlanta.  While at Cedar Grove Burrell was the 21st ranked 400 meter runner in the state and the 149th ranked 400 meter runner in the nation.  While at Cedar Grove, he helped lead the high school to two State Championships.  Burrell arrives with personal bests of 21.81 in the 200 meters and 48.58 in the 400 meters.

Kobey Hill - A product of Memphis, TN and Memphis Business Academy, Hill comes to MCC as a top 400 meter and 800 meter runner.  While in high school Hill was 4th in Tennessee in the 400 meters and 20th in the 800 meters outdoors.  Indoors, Hill was ranked 17th in the nation in the 400 meters and 41st in the nation in the 800 meters.  Hill was the TSSAA State Champion in the 400 meters as a senior.  He also claimed second place in both events at the USATF Youth Indoor National Championships in 2016.  He comes to MCC with personal bests of  48.79 in the 400 meters and 1:55.79 in the 800 meters.

Micah Britton  - A product of Alabama Christian Academy in Montgomery, Britton comes to MCC as one of the most decorated distance runners in Alabama High School history as an 8 time state champion between track and field and cross country.  Britton was the 13th ranked 800 meter runner in Alabama to go along with being ranked 14th in the 1600 meters and 25th in the 3200 meters.  He has personal bests of 1:57.12 in the 800 meters, 4:25 in the 1600 meters and 9:45.30 in the 3200 meters.

Raymond Mion - A product of Saint Stanislaus in Mississippi, Mion joins the MCC program as a two time State Champion and was ranked 11th in Mississippi in the 800 meters and 13th in 1600 meters. He arrives a MCC with personal bests of 2:01.06 in the 800 meters and 4:38.92 in the 1600 meters.

Marrell Parker - An Alabama native, Parker arrives at MCC from Opelika High School.  While at Opelika High School he helped lead the school to three Alabama State Championships.  Parker was ranked 3rd in the long jump in Alabama and was ranked 42nd in the nation in the long jump with a personal best of 24’0”.
