MCC Soccer Drops Pair To ECCC

From School Reports

The 2014 Meridian Community College soccer season officially started Saturday night at C.D. Smith Field as the Eagles welcomed East Central Community College to campus.

MCC played a couple of exhibition matches earlier this week against Holmes Community College to get tuned up for its matches on Saturday against the Warriors. The Lady Eagles played to a 1-1 tie on Tuesday against Holmes, while the MCC men fell to Holmes by a final count of 2-0.

East Central officially started its season earlier this week with a pair of victories over Southwest Mississippi Community College. The Lady Warriors defeated Southwest 6-0, while the ECCC men defeated the Bears 1-0.

The East Central women would continue its early season momentum by taking a dramatic 1-0 victory over MCC in what turned out to be a very exciting match. The goal came after a corner kick by the Lady Warriors that was eventually driven through after a couple of deflections near the goal. The goal was scored by Ashlan Culberson for the Lady Warriors.

The Lady Eagles will look to bounce back Tuesday afternoon with a road match at Northwest Mississippi Community College that begins at 2 p.m.

The East Central women will travel to Co-Lin for its next match which is also scheduled for Tuesday that will begin at 4 p.m.
