MCC baseball splits in four-game road trip

MERIDIAN — The Meridian Community College baseball team salvaged a two-day, four-game road trip to Niceville, Fla. Saturday afternoon by taking a 14-1 decision over Danville and keep its record above .500 on the season.
Nolan Thomas had a four-hit performance to lead the Eagles (10-9) including two home runs, while Meridian High product Kenny Roberts and Wade Wass each had a home run and double. Ben Kingsley went 3-for-4 from the plate.
Former West Lauderdale standout Wes Stokes earned the win on the mound for Meridian striking out two, while surrendering one earned-run.
The Eagles travel to Jones County Junior College Tuesday for a double-header that starts at 2 p.m.

In Saturday's opener the Eagles suffered a 17-run loss at the hands of Northwest Florida.
Dustin McWilliams suffered the loss for MCC. Ben Kingsley had a solo home run for Meridian, while Johnny Tolson added an RBI-single.

Meridian 0
MCC was shut out in its first game Friday in Florida as the Northwest Florida pitching staff allowed only two hits to Eagle batters.
Kenny Roberts and Ben Kingsley each had base knocks in the contest, while Dalton Short suffered the loss on the mound allowing five earned-runs.

Danville 5
Meridian rebounded in the nightcap Friday downing Danvile by two runs powered behind Kenny Roberts two-run home run.
Brian Donohoe added an RBI-single in the game and Daniel Allen earned the win on the mound giving up one earned.
The Eagles combined for seven hits.
