MCC nominates eight student-athletes to Academic All America Team


The Meridian Community College athletic department has nominated eight of its student-athletes to the 2008-09 National Junior College Athletic Association Academic All-American Team.

MCC athletic director, Hilary Allen confirmed Monday that the following MCC student-athletes will be named NJCAA Academic All-American:

From men’s tennis- Elliott Clark, Joe Otto and David Shrock; from women’s tennis- Kelly Sterling and Claire Massey; from women’s soccer- Andrea McLaughlin and Kari Lieberman; and from baseball- Jordan Faulkner.

Academic All-America must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.60 or better on a 4.0 scale for 45 semester hours or 60 quarter hours. Distinguished Academic All-America must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.80 or better on a 4.0 scale for 45 semester hours or 60 quarter hours.

Clark, Otto and Sterling received Distinguished Academic All-American status; while Faulkner, Lieberman, Massey, McLaughlin, and Shrock received Academic All-American.

The list of NJCAA Academic All-Americans will be released to each college with certificates for the award winners. The Academic All-America team members will also listed in the JUCO Review, the official publication of the NJCAA.

This academic year marks the fourth consecutive year that MCC has had four or more of its athletes nominated for Academic All America.
