MCC soccer completes season sweep of ECCC
Both Meridian squads stay in position to make playoffs
(MERIDIAN) – The Meridian Community College soccer teams completed their season sweep of MACJC South Division rival- East Central Community College Wednesday night.
MCC swept the Warriors back on September 1 in Decatur, the Lady Eagles won by a score of 2-1 while the Eagles won 8-1.
Wednesday night in Meridian the Lady Eagles defeated ECCC by a score of 5-2.
MCC was led by sophomore team captain, McKenzie Butler who scored a hat trick with 3 goals. Butler scored one goal in the first half then added two more in the second.
Lady Eagle freshmen Holly Head and Jill Rush each added one goal a piece for MCC.
The Lady Eagles improved to 10-1-1 (8-1) on the season.
MCC’s men team wasted no time getting on the board in their contest against ECCC.
Eagle sophomore Matt Clifton scored the first two goals of the game to give MCC an early 2-0 lead.
Eagle freshman Clifford Johnson and sophomore Kyle Hutchinson added one goal a piece to give MCC a 4-0 first half lead.
The Eagles would add two more goals in second half by way of Wilson Bounds and Matthews Thomas to pull away with a 6-0 victory.
The Eagles improved to 9-2-1 (7-1-1) on the year.
With their sixth sweep of an MACJC South Division opponent, both Meridian teams look to be in great shape to make the MACJC State playoffs.
Two teams from the South Division will advance to the playoffs. The Lady Eagles are in first place in the women’s standings while the Eagles are in second place in the men’s standings.
Both MCC teams host South Division opponent Southwest Mississippi Community College this Saturday in Meridian. The Lady Eagles take to the field at 12:00 PM while the men play at 2:00 PM.
