Eagle Golf in 1st after round one at Mallard Pointe

04/02/2007

SARDIS, Miss. – Meridian Community College’s golf team posted a 296 team score on day one of the Northwest MS/Itawamba Invitational at the par 72, 7,004 yard Mallard Pointe Golf Course and is in first place on the clubhouse leader-board heading into Tuesday’s final round.

The Eagles were the lone team out of eight teams to conclude 18 holes at a team score of 300 or better.

Hinds CC holds on to second place with a 306 team score.

MCC freshman Joshua Ivy led the Eagles with a 1-over par, 73.

Sophomore Dustin Petit and freshman Bryant Self turned in rounds of 2-over-par 74 to pace MCC.

Sophomore Justin Eaves shot a 3-over par 75, while freshman Jarrod Lemaster shot a 4-over-par 76. Michael Burton, competing as an individual for the Eagles, shot an 82.

“It was a solid team score on a tough course,” said MCC head coach Sean Covich. “Especially considering that fact that a few of the guys have never seen the course before.”

Hinds’ Sonny Williams leads all competitors with a 3-under par 69 while NE Mississippi’s Chase Williams shot a 1-under-par 71.

The final round will get underway Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. CST.
