(Ft. Gaines, Ga.) – Two weeks removed from winning their first tournament of 2006, the Meridian Community College golf team returns to competition on Sunday, Oct. 8, at the Andrew College Fall Invitational at Meadow Links Golf Course in Fort Gaines, Ga. The 36-hole tournament will continue thru Monday with the final 18 holes.

The Eagles are coming off a team and individual win at the MCC/Rush Fall Invitational back on Sept. 25-26 in Meridian at Briarwood Country Club.

“We played really well at Briarwood, which is what you expect to do on your home course,” said first-year MCC head golf coach, Sean Covich.

“It will be very exciting making this trip to Georgia and seeing how our guys respond to such a great performance in our last outing.”

Eagle freshman Joshua Ivy took home medalist honors at the event for his first win at MCC. His win has garnered him a top-15 ranking among NJCAA Div. II golfers. As a team, MCC shot 4-under par 284 in the final round of the MCC/Rush Invitational- it was MCC’s first under-par round since finishing third in the 2006 NJCAA national championship.

MCC’s probable line up for the Andrew College-hosted event will be sophomores Justin Eaves and Dustin Petit along with freshmen Joshua Ivy, Bryant Self and Curt Sparks. Sophomore Zach Rushing will also compete as an individual for the Eagles.

The Eagle’s squad is making its fourth appearance in the event. MCC has won two Andrew College Fall Invitational team championships; those came in back-to-back years in 2000 and 2001.

Meadow Links plays to a par-72 and spans over 7,000 yards. The Fort Gaines, Ga. links style course was ranked the "6th best new affordable public course" in the U.S. by Golf Digest.

“Our guys are excited about playing yet another outstanding course,” Covich said.

“We are truly blessed at MCC to be able to travel and play some of the region’s best courses.”

The field will include host school Andrew College, Abraham Baldwin College, MCC, two-time defending NJCAA national champions- Darton College, and many others.

The first round will be played on Sunday beginning at noon EST.
