Meridian Community College got another solid effort at home Saturday and took a 3-1 win over Mississippi Delta in the Rush Invitational Showcase at MCC.
It was the second win in as many days for Meridian in the Rush Invitational — which included a total of five men’s and women’s matches on Saturday.
The MCC women dropped a 5-2 decision against Delta in second-day action.
In the men’s contest, the Eagles got a goal from Jason Coats on a header off a corner kick; a breakaway goal from Terry Silva; and another goal from about 60 feet in front of the net by Dusty Oubre.Ryan Joiner was in goal for the Eagles, who improved to 10-3. MCC had knocked off Hinds 3-2 in Friday’s Rush Invitational action.
In the women’s match, the Lady Eagles got a pair of goals from McKenzie Butler. It wasn’t enough, however, to keep the injury-riddled MCC women from dropping below the .500 mark with a 6-7 record. Coach Alex George currently has just 11 healthy players on the women’s team.
Both MCC teams will be in action again on Wednesday, as Meridian hosts Copiah-Lincoln. The women’s match begins at 5 p.m., with the men to follow at approximately 7:15 p.m.—
