McPhail Named Coach of the Year

Meridian Community College men’s and women’s’ head tennis coach, Wanda McPhail, has been named one of the Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) Community College Coaches of the Year. Along with four other community college coaches, Coach McPhail will be honored Friday, July 7th, 2006 in Jackson, MS at the MAC Coaches Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet.
Coach McPhail will receive the Community College Tennis Coach of the Year award from the MAC.
In 2006, McPhail led the MCC women’s tennis team to a fifth straight appearance in the NJCAA national championship tournament. McPhail’s squad also captured their fourth straight MACJC State/Region XXIII championships this past year. In addition to McPhail’s upcoming MAC coaching honor, she was named both the Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges & Region XXIII Coach of the Year. The Lady Eagle tennis team finished 14th in the final NJCAA rankings.
In men’s tennis, McPhail led MCC to a fifth straight trip to the NJCA national championship tournament. The men’s tennis squad picked up MACJC/Region XXIII runner-up honors in 2006 and finished ranked 19th in the final NJCAA rankings.
