MCC Soccer Ends Season

The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles fought to the very end in its Region 23 Championship match with the Lady Bulldogs of Mississippi Gulf Coast, but overtime would be very unkind to Meridian. Gulf Coast scored a goal from Skyler Dellancer in the final 24 seconds of sudden death overtime to defeat the Lady Eagles by a final score of 1-0 on Saturday night in Perkinston, MS.
MCC ends the season with a 7-6-2 overall record and was led by a great performance by keeper Chasity Robertson with 13 saves. Mississippi Gulf Coast also won the men's Region 23 Championship over Pearl River Saturday night by a final score of 2-0.
The MCC men were eliminated from the Region 23 Tournament on Friday night after a 3-1loss to Pearl River. Steven Smith scored the lone goal in the loss for the Eagles in the first half of action. The Eagles held a 1-0 lead after one half of play, but the Wildcats scored three unanswered goals in the second half. MCC ended the season with an overall record of 1-13.
The MCC women will lose seven sophomores after their superb play in 2011 and those include: Chasity Robertson, Brooke Dew, Melanie McCaskill, Courtney Green, Chelsea Jensen, Dana Warnock, and Chelsea Byrd. The MCC men will graduate six sophomores from this season and those include: Matthew Goudie, Michael Brann, Steven Smith, Eugene Gaseb, Reed Scarbrough, and Ben Jordan.
