MCC takes two from Chipola

The Meridian Community College Eagles swept a doubleheader from highly-touted Chipola (Fla.) Community College Friday.
The Eagles took game one 10-5 and won game two by a 9-1 score. The two wins improved MCC’s record to 13-3 on the season.
In the first game, the Eagles scored seven runs in the first two innings to jump out to a big lead.
Michael Guerrero got the scoring started with a two-run homer in the first inning and Tyler Moore added to that with a three-run blast in the second. Toddrick Stevenson and Matt Holliman also had RBI hits in the second inning.
Chipola scored twice in the fourth to close the gap before Guerrero hit his second homer of the game, this one a solo blast.
Chipola scored twice more in the fifth, but once again MCC answered, plating two runs on RBIs by Josh Demoney and Nathan Wright.
Lee Swindle picked up the complete-game victory, allowing only two earned runs on 10 hits.
MCC was even more dominant in the second game. A three-run second inning and six-run third were all the scoring the Eagles needed.
In the second, Moore hit a solo homer before Drew Snider had an RBI single and Demoney hit an RBI double.
Snider drove in two more runs in the third on another single and Wright drove in another run with a single of his own. Snider scored on an error before Stevenson drove in the final two runs with a double.
Kedrick Martin picked up the win, allowing one run on five hits in five innings. Jason Coats pitched the final two innings, allowing only one hit.
