MCC Soccer Contiunes Winning Streak

The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles continued to ride its early season wave of success by defeating Southwest Mississippi Community College 8-0 Tuesday afternoon in another key road match.

The Lady Eagles moved its overall record to 6-0 and 2-0 in MACJC South Division.

Former Meridian High star MeMe Huff had her best performance of the 2013 season by scoring a game-high four goals in the victory. Huff has now scored seven goals in the last two games for MCC and currently ranks among the top five in the NJCAA in goals scored.

Huff scored her first goal of the match in the 10th minute to give the Lady Eagles a 1-0 lead. Kayla Phillips collected the assist on the scoring play for MCC. Huff added her second goal of match in the 17th minute and scored the hat trick in the opening minute of the second half. Huff scored her fourth and final goal of the match in the 76th minute to finish off her spectacular day.

Taylor Hanes chipped in with a pair of goals, while Kaylyn Stewart scored a second half goal. Phillips ended the day with a goal and two assists for MCC. Phillips entered the game Tuesday tied for the NJCAA lead in assists.

The Lady Eagles will look to continue its current winning streak Saturday with a home match against Mississippi Gulf Coast. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. start at C.D. Smith Field.

The MCC men extended its current winning streak to three games with a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over Southwest.

Christian Jackson scored the winning goal two minutes deep into the overtime session to lead the Eagles to the victory.

The Eagles are currently 3-3 overall and 2-0 in MACJC South Division action.

The MCC men will return to the field Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. against Mississippi Gulf Coast at C.D. Smith Field.

MCC Soccer Stays Hot With Sweep

The Meridian Community College soccer program continued its winning ways Friday by sweeping a pair of road matches against Copiah-Lincoln Community College.

The Lady Eagles secured a 4-1, while the MCC men collected a 4-0 shutout over the Wolves.

Former Meridian High standout MeMe Huff led the charge for the Lady Eagles with a hat trick. Huff scored two goals in the first half and added her third score of the match in the second half of action. Huff is currently ranked in the top ten in goals among all players in the country according to the NJCAA.

Sophomore Taylor Hanes scored a goal on an assist by Aliyah Bradford to complete the scoring for MCC.

The Lady Eagles improved to 5-0 with the win and 1-0 in MACJC South Division play. The MCC women will return to the field Tuesday with a road match at Southwest beginning at 2 p.m.

The MCC men opened division play by taking a 4-0 shutout over Co-Lin.

Christian Jackson started the scoring for the Eagles with a goal in the 32nd minute and the second goal of the half came on a mistake by the Wolves that resulted in an own goal to give MCC a 2-0 edge. Quinton Smith and Kyle Roblin each added a goal in the second half to help pace the effort by MCC.

The Eagles are now 2-3 overall for the season and 1-0 in divisional play.

The MCC men will return to the field Tuesday with another key MACJC South Division match against Southwest beginning at 4 p.m.

MCC Sweeps Home Set With Hinds

The Meridian Community College soccer program opened the 2013 home portion of its schedule Tuesday night at C.D. Smith Field by securing a sweep over visiting Hinds Community College.

The Lady Eagles earned a 4-2 victory over Hinds, while the MCC men secured a 4-1 win.

Sophomore Kristen Morris scored a pair of goals in the second half of the women's contest to propel MCC to the victory.

Sophomore Taylor Hanes scored the first goal of the match for MCC in the 9th minute, while former Meridian High star MeMe Huff added a goal for the Lady Eagles that tied the match at 2-2 after one half.

MCC improved its overall record to 4-0 with the home victory. The Lady Eagles will return to action Friday with a road match at Co-Lin which is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The MCC men secured its first victory of the season by defeating Hinds by a final score of 4-2. The Eagles fell behind early, but were able to battle back to take a 2-1 lead after one half.

Evinn Watson and Tyler Germany each had one goal apiece in the first half for the Eagles.

Germany carried MCC to the victory by scoring two goals in the second half to complete the hat trick. Germany scored one of his second half goals on a 40-yard free kick and scored is third goal of the match in the 60th minute.

MCC (1-3) will return to action Friday with a road match at Co-Lin beginning at 6:30 p.m.
